Winner of the CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal 2013

Black DOg

Black Dog by Levi Pinfold

A black dog appears outside the Hope family’s home. As each member of the household sees it and hides, the dog grows bigger and bigger. Only Small, the youngest Hope, has the courage to face the Black Dog. When it chases her through the forest she shows no fear, so it grows smaller and smaller. Finally, back to the size of a normal hound, the Black Dog is welcomed into the Hope household as their newest addition.

The Kate Greenaway Medal was established in 1955, to recognise distinguished illustration in a book for children.

Iain Banks: Final Chapter

We are very sad about the death of one of our best loved authors. Iain Banks was a wonderful writer who crossed over the usual boundaries between fiction and science fiction with passion and originality. We all have our personal favourites, Espedair Street, The Crow Road and Consider Phlebas are outstanding for us, but The Wasp Factory will always be a modern classic and all of his Culture novels will be honoured in the science-fiction community for eons.
